I. Identification: A student may be identified as needing reading remediation, but a permission letter to receive Title I services is sent home first. (English Learner, McKinney-Vento, 504 students are also considered Title I.)
Identification tools
- Observation Survey (Reading Recovery 1st Grade only)
- FastBridge
- WY-TOPP
- Common Summative Classroom Assessments
- American Reading Company's Independent Reading Level Assessment®
II. Intervention: We consider our RTI (Response to Intervention) time for each grade level to be Tier 2 and Tier 3. Those groups are formed based on the information from the Independent Reading Level Assessment. The RTI groups are generally small, and the lessons come directly from the ARC Toolkits based on the students' needs. Students move to other groups when skills are mastered and reading levels change.
III. Progress Monitoring: The student is then progress monitored through FastBridge and other monitoring tools in order to ensure that the student is receiving the appropriate instruction.
IV. Exiting: Once a student is at grade-level reading, he/she no longer receives the above interventions, but continues to be monitored to ensure he/she is maintaining appropriate growth. There is a transition process for students heading into Lovell Middle School so that appropriate services continue.
